On Wednesday 19 November, join us again for a night of good old fashioned fun and creative networking, Pecha Kucha style at The Apartment Downtown @ Suria KLCC.

If you haven’t heard of Pecha Kucha Night Kuala Lumpur, it can basically be summed up as a night of quick draw presentations by creatively inclined beings, good company, cool tunes by DJ Blastique and even greater conversations. Try it to believe it!

Massive respect to Richard and Dan of twentyone for booking me, taking care of all my needs and for making me feel completely at home. Also, a huge thank you goes to EVERYONE who made it down for this very memorable gig. I can’t say that I’ve had as much fun playing solo anywhere in KL until that night itself. You peeps on the dancefloor stayed till the absolute end and it was a mad feeling seeing ya getting down to breaks and bass

I have uploaded a coupla hours of the set here. I wanted the whole thing, but unfortunately my recorder was acting a bit funky, corrupted the beginning of the file, and decided to run out 1 hour before the end, grrrr!

Let me reassure you that I know the organisers of face2face, and they have materialized this vision of theirs over months of hard work. The quality of this event to be witnessed, in about 3 weeks time, will be testament to that.

Ableton Live whiz-kid, Blastique, returns from a long hiatus here on FKL with one hell of mixset to kick start the week. And in typical fashion, the listener is assaulted right from the get go with a plethora of rocking-bass-funking-madness as the boy rips out a barrage of multi-layered tracks, stitched with a surgical precision that would make any Nip/Tuck surgeon cream his pants. Not to mention plenty of live, on-the-fly SFX manipulations and sampling.

So get ready for some insane non-linear editing from Blastique and sheer awesomeness from Alex Metric, Splitloop, SuperStyleDeluxe, DJ Fixx, Kickflip and a whole lot more.

“From the first to the last release on Silo… classically trained sonic alchemist Reuben Samuel, aka Blastique, cut a groove out for himself with the original release of ‘Rabbits back in November ‘06. A hot mixture of progressive vibes and rolling tech-funk, DJ’s championing it included Hybrid (”playing it more and more!… Love it!”) and Nick Thayer (”the kind of relentless rolling tech-funk that I really dig”).

This time around it’s all twisted bleeps, squeaks, and wobbly bass as we get a nasty tech-house turn-in courtesy of pioneering duo Deepgroove (Underwater / Slave / Klang Elektronik). As druggy as they come, it’s all squelching basslines and sharp percussive edits set around a massively infectious groove. One for darkened rooms and big systems.”

As we roll into a new financial year, the OneAM show rolls into Ambar for their first appearance in Perths favorite basement.

Spearheading the lineup will be Producer/DJ – BLASTIQUE, flying in from Malaysia for an exclusive 2 hour live set.

Classically trained in music, he has spent the past 7 years perfecting his electronic music production skills. Today, a degree-wielding Sonic Artist, Blastique laces his sound with scalpel-like precision, technical mastery, and an unrelenting attitude that refuses to be pigeon holed.

With a string of solo releases on UK labels such as Silo Recordings and Electrofly Records, has also teamed up with producers Nutek and Glen Tandy to form Nu-Tandique. Their first release, a remix of The Radiators’ “Gimme Head” has featured on MOS Summer Session Vol. 5

Blastique performs live, and integrates his arsenal of MIDI gear & Ableton together with some tight programming, resulting in a sound that can be described as progressively melodic-techy-tribal n’ breaky.

For support duties we have assembled a talented and diverse local lineup. Ex Nyquist Freq and turntable master, Angry Buda performs with MC Rami. Perth Breakbeat queen, of Sista Massive fame; Missile and up and coming breaks duo; the Nightcrawlaz join the OneAM Residents to round off the party.
